Self-Care Tips from Celebrity Favorites (And How to Follow Them)

Self-care is a vital part of maintaining wellness and sanity in our fast-paced world nowadays. The importance of prioritizing healthy habits has only been amplified since the start of the pandemic. During a time when everyone is indoors 24/7, self-care is under the spotlight.

If you don’t know where to begin, remember there isn’t a “right” or “wrong” way to practice self-care. Prioritizing physical, mental, and emotional well-being looks different for everyone. Small lifestyle choices add up to affect how we feel, whether it’s picking a bra to wear, listening to music, or deciding what to eat for breakfast. The three reminders we mention below are crucial to the foundation of self-care.

1) Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and exercise

You’ve heard it a million times, but you might just need to hear it again. Sleep, diet, and exercise are the three key pillars of health. Since it’s nearly impossible to keep up ideal eating habits, sleep schedules, and fitness routines, start by focusing on one and build upon it. When you pick one area to prioritize, and the others will come more naturally.

For example, once you get addicted to a new at-home workout series, you might feel more motivated to fuel your body properly and allow it to recover by getting more sleep. Plus, there’s never been a more important time to strengthen your immune system and keep stress at bay.

2) Use your support system

Knowing when to reach out when you need help is key to self-care. If you’re feeling particularly disconnected from your closest friends, schedule a weekly recurring date in your calendar to touch base with them.

If you’re losing your mind being in close quarters with loved ones, find ways to communicate what you need from them to stay calm and happy. A big part of self-care that’s often overlooked is the simple act of leaning on your loved ones without feeling like a burden. You know you’ll be there when they need you, so don’t shy away from your inner circle when you’re struggling.

3) Be kind to yourself

Respect yourself and realize you’re not superhuman. If you haven’t felt like your usual self during this quarantine, you might fall into the trap of being frustrated with yourself. Instead, take the opportunity to be kind and more patient with yourself. Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can.

Use a journal to reflect on the positives of each day and the steps you made towards your goals. Change your internal dialogue to be as positive as possible, and reframe situations to focus on self-improvement. One of the best ways to show yourself kindness is by practicing mindful gratitude. Practice mindfulness before bed to clear your head. Simply meditating on what you’re grateful for is a powerful form of self-care, especially if you write down a list.

Realizing you need to practice self-care is relatively easy, but actually doing it is the hard part. Sometimes you just need a little inspiration from those in the spotlight to convince yourself that self-care is a priority. Take a cue from some of our favorite self-care savvy stars and businesswomen who have publicly shared the power of nurturing their minds and bodies daily. Luckily, you don’t need Beyoncé’s budget to implement some of these self-care practices in your own life.

There’s never been a more vital time for us to prioritize our well-being as individuals. You don’t have to be a celebrity or billionaire business mogul to create a wellness routine that works for you. One of the simplest ways to practice self-care is to prioritize comfort through clothes that you enjoy wearing. After all, everything from your bra to your choice of loungewear can have a positive impact on how you feel on a daily basis.
